Preliminary Lessons
At MPMA, we believe in the power of great collaborations. In a preliminary lesson, students can experience the teaching style of one of our outstanding faculty members, assuring them a good fit for subsequent private lessons.
Please contact us for Preliminary Lesson rates.
Private Lessons

Communication
MPMA may take 5-10 business days to process invoice requests and handle communication via email. Any requests are handled in order received, and we will always honor the date at which the message was received.
Instrument Requirements, At Home Practice, and Behavior
All students are required to own and practice a suitable instrument at home (with the exception of voice). Each teacher sets their own practice requirements for their own student. A teacher reserves the right to recommend the discontinuation of lessons due to lack of instrument or lack of practice.
Trial Lessons
At MPMA, your first lesson is a trial to ensure a good fit between teacher and student. Students are permitted one trial class with each teacher per instrument. These trials may often be scheduled at times that are otherwise unavailable for a weekly time.
Please refer to the Registration and Tuition page for current rates.
Annual Studio Fee
There is an annual registration fee every year on September 1st for all continuing students.
New students who register between September 1st and December 31st pay the Fall Registration Fee, and students who register between January 1st and August 31st pay a Spring Registration Fee and are still responsible for the Annual Studio Fee on September 1st.
Please refer to the Registration and Tuition page for current rates.
Lesson Calendar
Lessons at MPMA occur year round. Lessons are generally scheduled to follow the Redwood City School District TK-8 Calendar. Monday or Friday lessons are not subject to 3-day weekend holidays. Lessons are not scheduled the week of Thanksgiving, the 2 weeks around Christmas and New Years, Spring Break, and the week of 4th of July.
Tuition Invoices
Tuition Invoices are due on the 1st of each month. Your invoice for the coming month will be sent out 5 days before the 1st. If payment is not received by the 10th of the month, a Late Fee is applied to the invoice. If the tuition and late fee are not paid by the 1st of the next month, the student will be unregistered and unable to continue lessons.
Please refer to the Registration and Tuition page for current rates for Late Fees.
Monthly Tuition
Monthly Tuition is the standard tuition for all students, and covers weekly lessons for private and group students. It is a flat rate every month, regardless of the number of lessons taken. If the number of scheduled lessons in a month falls below three (3) due to a teacher absence and a suitable substitute is not available, we will make accommodations to make up the classes in the following weeks.
Please refer to the Registration and Tuition page for current rates.
Case By Case Tuition
Case By Case Tuition is available to private students with otherwise busy schedules, and is priced at a higher rate. Students who take bi-weekly lessons use Case By Case Tuition. These lessons are shown on the monthly invoice with individual dates. The Case By Case Tuition Invoice Correction Period happens in the 5 days before the start of each month, allowing for the removal or addition of lessons from the calendar and for associated tuition changes.
Please refer to the Registration and Tuition page for current rates.
Regular Absences and Make-Up Classes
A family must notify the school or teacher 24-hours or more in advance about any absence if they would like to be eligible for a make-up class. Make-Up Classes must be taken within 30 days of the absence or they are forfeited. Students who give less than a 24-hour notice are considered No-Shows and are not eligible for a make-up class.
If a student is late by more than a 1/3rd or their lesson time, the teacher is at liberty to turn the student away and the lesson is considered a No-Show, and is therefore not eligible for a make-up class.
Substitute Teachers
MidPeninsula Music Academy reserves the right to provide a substitute teacher if a regularly scheduled teacher is ill or otherwise unable to teach a lesson. If a student chooses not to attend their regularly scheduled lesson solely due to the presence of a substitute, that lesson is not eligible for a make-up unless previously approved by the school.
Emergency Absences
Students are allowed 2 Emergency Absences a year, and are eligible for a Make-Up Class. Please communicate with the school and teacher if you would like to mark a No-Show as an Emergency Absence.
Extended Vacation
If a student is to be absent a month or more and does not want to withdraw and register, they must pay half tuition for the duration of their absence. Students who withdraw due to vacations will be removed from the schedule and will need to reapply.
Withdrawal
If a student wishes to stop lessons, the family needs to notify the school or teacher about the withdrawal by the 15th of each month. Under normal circumstances, there are no refunds for unused lessons when a student withdraws. Students are encouraged to finish out the number of lessons they have paid for.
Pick-Up and Drop Off
Students are to arrive no earlier than 5 minutes before their lesson and leave no more than 5 minutes before their lessons. Students who walk or ride bikes should like the school and know of the arrangement so that we can help monitor and keep our students safe.
Injuries
Parents, legal guardians of minor students, and adult students waive the right to any legal action for any injury sustained on or around the school property resulting from normal lesson activity or any other activity conducted by the students before, during, or after their lesson time.
Participation in Recitals
MPMA holds multiple recitals per year. Private Students are strongly encouraged but not required. Participation is included for Monthly Tuition students. Case By Case Tuition students may incur a small recital fee. Attendance for family and friends are ticketed and limited by the size of the venue.
Photo & Video Release
MPMA is hereby granted permission to take photographs or video of the students for the use in brochures, websites, posters, advertisements, social media and other promotional material it creates.
Parent’s Responsibility
It is the responsibility of families to stay up to date with our newsletter, calendar, policies, and important deadlines. Mid Peninsula Music Academy reserves the right to recommend and enforce the termination of lessons due to lack of communication about scheduling and billing.
