Summer Programs

Piano Apprentice (ages 5-6)

Want a fun intro to piano class for your young one? Our Summer Piano Apprentice class is a 6-week course
that will introduce the basics of piano and music in an exciting small class setting! 

Students will develop the foundations of playing piano including:
- Correct hand position and posture
- Keeping a steady beat and basic rhythms
- Music fundamentals such as forte/piano, high/low, and basic note reading
- Fun songs
- Listening


$175 includes tuition, registration, and materials

Storytelling through Song
An Introductory Musical Theater Workshop

Do you like to sing? Do you like to act? Interested in Musical Theater? Than this summer course is for you! This summer course is for students interested in auditioning for musicals, developing a deeper understanding of the music they're singing, and learning to work and sing together in a small group! 

- Expand knowledge of music theater literature
- Study movement and acting
- Learn audition techniques and participate in mock auditions
- Learn group number (including choreography and harmony)
- And most of all - have FUN!

Intro to Songwriting (for the first-time songwriter)

This course will introduce to students the basic concepts of songwriting. The class will focus on basic songwriting fundamentals including lyric and melody writing, simple chord progressions, and form. Students should have had about 1 year of private music lessons (preferably on piano, guitar, or voice).

$150 includes tuition, registration, and materials

Songwriting with GarageBand

This camp will help students develop the necessary skills to write and arrange original songs. Songwriting basics will be covered such as melody and lyric writing, harmony, and form. Additionally, students will learn how to use GarageBand (Mac laptop or iPad with Garage Band software required) to help arrange and produce their songs.

Students should have had at least 1 year of private lessons on an instrument or voice.

$160 includes tuition, registration, and materials (a Mac device with Garage Band is required)

Songwriting Summer Workshop (for intermediate level songwriters)

This 6 week-class will help students develop the skills to write original songs. Focusing on the basics of lyric and melody writing, more interesting chord progressions, and form. Students will also study the process of deconstructing current songs to better understand differences in genres. Students should have had around 2 years of private music lessons.

$225 includes tuition, registration, and materials

Music Technology
Levels: grades 6-8

Are you looking for a great way to integrate your child's passion for music with technology? This12-week will cover the basics of the physics of sound, recording techniques, audio editors, and music programming. All that is required for the course is a laptop, a smartphone, and a pair of headphones and you can begin exploring a whole new world of sound.

Percussion Apprentice
Levels: grades 2-4

Does your child have a knack for rhythm?  Are they constantly tapping and drumming on every surface available? If so, you may have a percussionist on your hands!  

The 6 week group percussion class at MPMA is a great opportunity for your child to learn how to read and write music.  The snare drum (practice pad) will be the main tool in introducing concepts such as beat, rhythm, time keeping, note and rest values, meter, and much more.  Snare drum technique including grip, posture, approach, and stroke types will be covered.  Introduction and development of rudiments will also be studied which can then be applied to all other aspects of percussion including drumset.

$160 incl. tuition, registration, and materials

There are no refunds or credits or make-ups for missed classes. 

A complimentary Preliminary Private Lesson is offered after the class to those interested.
